One Nation, Under God

Whitewater News and Opinion for August 15, 2018

Whitewater NEWS

8-8. Sympathy to all who lost someone or lost their homes in fires. There have been terrible fires in California, Montana and many other places across the US. Be careful and a big salute to all our firefighters.

There was a beach party at the North 40. We heard that Rob Love cooked meat. Rob was family to Mickey Ivanovitch (Sally Austin’s brother.) They all went to school in Whitewater years ago.

We had one good rain, but the ground is still really dry. Some ranchers are trying to buy hay. Let’s hope it is an easy winter.

The Phillips County Fair is this weekend. Everyone is looking forward to it. Good luck to all 4-H people who have entries. Enjoy the fair.

Today I went to see Taylor Hellie’s “mini farm” where she has ducks, lambs, chickens, and baby goats. How cute!

We had a goat once. It stood on cars and took mom’s clothes off the line and ate them.

Enjoy the summer.

8-15. Congratulations to the family of baby Isaiah of Loring Colony.

A former foreign exchange student to Whitewater came back to visit her hostess, Ree Simonson, and family. The woman now lives in Guadalajara, Mexico, one of the largest cities in that country. Ree said, “It must have been a real change to come back to Whitewater, Mont.”

There was a family birthday party for Shirly Dunbar’s 91st birthday. Dixie and Julie Moore, and her son attended and also Jay Brown. I visited Julie and she said, “Grandma enjoyed the party, especially Dixie’s fried chicken.” Happy birthday Shirley and all birthdays.

The 2018 Phillips County Fair was wonderful. There was great attendance and especially at the night concert with Roots & Boots. The music was fabulous country played to a full grandstand.

Congratulations to all the prize winners. The Hellie boys and Sommer Green did wonderfully.

Congratulations to Jean Green, Ree Simonson and all winners — including myself — in the Open Class! I won four prizes including a blue ribbon for my Whitewater News Journaling book. (Sorry about my bragging.)

The highlight of the fair for me was the Indian Relay Races. These young riders are really brave and great. The races were awesome! They really draw in the crowds.

Of course, the fair burgers, pie, and all the foods were delicious. It is a let down when the fair is over.

Here in Whitewater, some farms are haying and starting to combine. It is too bad that it is so dry out.

School starts in Whitewater on August 14. I’ll report more on school next time.

Take care,

Helen.
