$10K in prizes at the 2018 Bash for Cash

Expect to see plenty of crashes, flames and more as the Phillips County Fair Bash for Cash Demolition Derby is scheduled to start on Saturday, August 4, at 6 p.m.

Tickets for the Grandstand event will be $15 per adult and $5 per child 5-12 years of age.

Chinook's Scott Skoyen, the event's coordinator shared what the crowd will see at the 3rd Annual Bash for Cash event.

"People are going to see a lot of wrecked cars," Skoyen said.

He would later expand on what that means.

"You're going to see all kinds of cars," Skoyen said. "Parts falling off, cars with bumpers pointed straight in the air. It's just a total wreck from the go. With your weld cars, you are going to see a lot of horsepower and hear a lot of noise. We're talking upwards to 400 horsepower engines in these cars. There will be some cars that people have shelled from $5,000 to $10,000 into the cars. It's just extreme."

The Bash for Cash event consists of a Full Weld class as well as a Chain and Bang class.

"In the Chain Class you pretty much knock the windows out, move the gas tank and move the battery into the floorboard, make sure all of the interior parts are out and go out and wreck it," Skoyen said. "It should take a two or three-day build at the most, whereas the weld cars can take two months to build."

This year there will be a $10,000 payout in the Weld Car event.

"In the weld class, all of the seems can be welded," Skoyen said. "They can weld from the firewall forward. They can run full engine cradles and braced rear ends. There is a lot of horse-power. With the chain class, it's just a stock car but the Weld Class is above and beyond."

Though the event in past years has brought several drivers to the P.C. Fair, Skoyen has no idea how many drivers this year's Bash for Cash will host.

"We have an event in Havre this weekend," he said. "Depending on what's left from there, I will get cars from that. Glasgow's event will be two days before and we will get cars from that."

As far as which drivers have had a great season, Skoyen hasn't kept tabs but the Bash for Cash crew has had a busy summer.

"We have had some guys go to Utah," Skoyen said. "They did fair over there. We had the Chinook (Blaine County) Fair here (a couple of weekends ago) and we had a great show."

The Bash for Cash event in Chinook went over well and hosted plenty of talent.

"We had 16 weld cars and 11 chain cars, so we did very well there," Skoyen said. "Skylar Powell placed first in Chinook and Jake Brown was second."

Though last year's event featured a "406" '78 Dodge Aspen raffle car in the Chain and Bang event, this year will not feature any drivers from the crowd.

"You would have to build a car yourself," Skoyen said. "I don't know of any auction cars or raffle cars that will be available this year. If you are coming then you will be a spectator unless you want to build a car. If you want to build a car then the Chain and Bang is a perfect chance for somebody that wants to do it. It's a pretty simple build."
