One Nation, Under God
The 2018 First State Bank Car Show presented the Psycho Sports Cartel (PSC) with a dangerous situation; shifty winds that could've completely shut the show down. Still they rode.
Though it was the most dangerous Malta event the group had seen, Montana native Travis Cady, Cody Cavanaugh of Neenah, Wisc., and Pat Manzi of Las Vegas, Nev., still put on quite the show, giving Car Show attendees a chance to see their high-flying act last Saturday, June 2 at both 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. The group also entertained the racers and crowd at the Hi-Line Dragstrip on Sunday, June 3.
After PSC's first run on Saturday, the PCN caught up with Cady, who had been to Malta for the third consecutive year.
Cady is from the Northern Cheyenne Reservation in Lame Deer. He was excited to see the large crowd at the Car Show.
“It seems like there are more people here than the last couple of years that I have been out here but unfortunately there is more wind too,” Cady said. “That means we get to jump off of our bikes a little less than normal but we are still having fun and the crowd is having fun, so that's great.”
Cady explained what is was like riding in such windy conditions.
“There is just a lot of discomfort,” Cady said. “As soon as you leave the ramp, you can feel the wind pushing you and you're just trying to visualize where you are going to land and it's hard with the wind blowing. The minute you jump off of your bike, your bike wants to get away from you.”
Cavanaugh brought his ramps all the way from Wisconsin. The ramps presented both Cavanaugh and Cady with ramps that they were familiar with.
“This is like homecourt advantage, I get to ride these ramps at least fifteen to twenty times a year, as opposed to showing up at other places where I might ride one ramp this weekend and somebody else's the next weekend, so this just feels like home to me.”
Cady appreciates the town of Malta for making the group feel welcome.
“It's a really good motorsports community,” Cady said. “You have the dragstrip and a gear-head is a gear-head, so I feel like we have that in common.”
Cady shared what he has done since the 2017 FSB Car show.
“Just a lot of traveling,” Cady said. “I've done a lot more car shows over the past year, than I had before. It has been a good year. I am glad to be back here. I love coming and doing things locally here in Montana. It's good to see Montana people.”
