Hi-Line Drag Strip set to start 12th season

Phillips County Motorsports (PCMS) is set to kick off its 12th season of racing at the Hi-Line Dragstrip in Malta, as part of The First State Bank Car Show weekend.

"Car shows and drag racing kind of go hand-in-hand," said PCMS Board Member Dylan Bergos.

The first PCMS event kicks off on Saturday, June 2, after the conclusion of the Car Show. That afternoon PCMS will hold a test and tune event.

"Hopefully we have a good car count," Bergos said. "We should have around 100 if not more cars at the track."

On Sunday, June 3, PCMS will host their first official bracket racing event for points. The points will go towards a regular season total that will qualify each racer for a chance to go to the 2018 World Finals in Memphis, Tenn.

The four 2017 Track Champions were Dan Olson of Glasgow in the Box Super Pro class with 927, Cole Casteel of Crosby, N.D. with 1177 points in the No Box class, Josh Viall who won the Sportsman with 827 and Kyle Stahl of Glasgow who won the Junior class with 927 points.

The dragstrip will feature the Psycho Sports Cartel late Sunday morning after time trials.

"They come down with their ramp setup and essentially do the same show they do at the Car Show, but it's pretty neat to see it at the dragstrip. A lot of racers who don't see it at the car show can see it at the race track."

This weekend's events are officially PCMS' first racing events, but the group had a track clean up on Saturday, May 19, which then allowed racers to test and tune that weekend.

"It went awesome," Bergos said. "We had a bunch of help. We got done faster than we expected and we had a few cars that Sunday rolling down the track. It was good."

PCMS races include four divisions of racing, which are the Junior Dragster class, Sportsman class, No Box Pro class, and Box Super class.

The Junior Dragster class includes racers in the 8-18 age range. The Sportsman class features drivers from 16 and over, that race street-legal cars, that often are common stock cars. The No Box class features quicker cars with no electronics that help racers' timing at the starting line. The Box Pro class features electronics that help with reaction time at the starting line.

PCMS will host another set of bracket racing events on Saturday, June 16 through Sunday, June 17. The next event will be the Montana Drag Racing Association Race on Saturday, July 21 through Sunday, July 22. Saturday, September 1, the track will be hosting a Quick 16 race and Test and Tune. On Sunday, September 2, there will be bracket race followed by the Iron Man Classic on Monday, September 3. On Saturday, September 22, PCMS will have the Jr. Dragster Big Dollar Race, a Test and Tune and the Annual Fundraiser Banquet. On Sunday, September 23, PCMS will be having their $12,000 Big Dollar Race.
