One Nation, Under God
Jean Mavencamp has been the Phillips County Treasurer and Assessor since 1991 and with no competition in the primary election on June 5, it looks as though she will continue on in the position. As she will continue to represent the people of Phillips County, The Phillips County News asked Mavencamp to fill out our 2018 Candidate Q&A which follows below.
Tell us about yourself.
My name is Jean Mavencamp and I'm running for the office of the Phillips County Treasurer/Assessor. I am the fourth child born to the late Monte and Helen Mavencamp. I was raised on a farm/ranch northeast of Whitewater, Mont. I graduated from Whitewater High School and attended Northern Montana College.
What is your motivation for running for office?
I started working in the Treasurer/Assessor's office on September 1, 1981 as the Motor Vehicle Clerk. I was taught most of the duties of the office by the prior Treasurer. I was later appointed to the Treasurer/Assessor on March 1, 1991 to fill the position of Treasurer when she had to resign due to health reasons.
What issues concern you in the position you are running for?
Over the years I have attended all but one of the Certification classes that the Montana County Treasurers Association has held since I became the Treasurer and have completed all the courses necessary to be a certified County Treasurer/Assessor.
What skills or attributes make you a good candidate for the position?
I have many years of experience and working knowledge of the County Treasurer/Assessor's office and have seen a lot of changes in Montana Law over the years and still have the want to serve the public of Phillips County for another four years.
