MALTA - Dale Freitag, 81, a retired house mover, died at his home in Malta on May 1, 2018, of natural causes while sleeping.
Memorial services were Friday, May 4, at the Kirkwood Memorial Chapel. Interment with military honors will be in the Malta Cemetery. Condolences for the family may be left at http://www.kirkwoodfuneralhome.com.
Dale was born August 23, 1936, to Henry and Ida (Johnson) Freitag in Enderlin, N.D. He was raised in Enderlin. He graduated from Enderlin High School in 1954.
Shortly after high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in 1956. Dale was a hardworking man all his life; working for the Soo Line Railroad and later the Santa Fe Railroad. He worked construction from building houses to building bridges, to working the oil fields. His favorite was building moving which he continued to do until he was about 80 years old.
He married Marlene Erickson in 1958 from Leonard, North Dakota. They had two sons, Mike and Mark. In 1965, the family moved to Malta where they continue to live.
In November 1982 Dale joined the fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous and began his journey of recovery from the disease of alcoholism. He enjoyed visiting with his friends, Canadian Chuck Wagon races, reading, and working in his leather shop.
Dale is survived by his wife, Marlene; sons, Mike and Mark all of Malta; brother, Dennis; several nieces, nephews; brother and sister-in-law, Ronnie and Carol Erickson. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and a sister-in-law.
