One Nation, Under God
On Saturday, April 14th we traveled to Chinook to attend the "24th Annual Gathering of the Montana Country Poets & Pickers." What a treat the gathering turned out to be. Among performers coming from the U.S.A. and Canada were three Phillips County residents - Elaine Campbell, Lorraine Seaford, and Warren Taylor. What talent our county has...
The weekend provides a Friday and Saturday night show held at the Chinook High School Auditorium benefiting the Chinook FFA and a Saturday all day free event at the Chinook Motor Inn. Which features live music and poets who get a chance to be heard and given a place in the Saturday night show.
Due to Ma Nature's erratic weather swings and the fact that we contract for transportation with Phillips Transit we chose to go on Saturday. The weather was great no flooding on Highway 2 but the next week Chinook flooded.
The event is held the second full weekend every year in April. Well worth the trip.
About our activities. We spend the 2nd and 4th Wednesday mornings of each month having coffee with the Hi-Line lady residents. We get to listen to their memories of their families and living in Phillips County. Often a Red Hatter was a student of a resident and we get an insight into the younger Red Hatter. We take turns bringing a homemade sweet treat to the visit.
Each year we choose a different charity to support financially. This year it was the Boys and Girls Club.
We have a monthly lunch on the 3rd Thursday at a different restaurant as well as a breakfast meeting at Westside on the first Saturday of the month
If you are interested in knowing more about the Red Hatters call me @654-7402.
