Mace, Lytle & Rock recognized by VFW Post 4067

The Buster Deo VFW Post 4067 presented certificates to local selections for the Safety Awards at a ceremony on Monday, April 23, 2018. Commander Jim Layton along with Service Officer Donald Klinko, Matt Pugh VFW QM/ADJ, American Legion Commander Vince Schmoeckel, Sons of the American Legion President Charlie Stevens, and VFW Auxiliary President Cheryl Wallace were joined by friends, family, and community members for the event.

Commander Layton introduced William "Bill" Rock as the Fireman of the Year recipient. Rock served as Fire Chief for 14 years, along with being an active firefighter for 35 years. Rock averaged 55 fires a year throughout his work in this line of safety. Bill had recently retired from active duty. His background also included various training and education updates throughout his career with the department.

Vince Mace was recognized as the EMT of the Year. His history includes annual training and volunteer services to the community. Mace pursued a career in the field and was licensed in 2010 and as with Rock, volunteers a lot of work and service to the community.

Jerry Lytle was presented a certificate as the Law Enforcement Officer of the Year. Lytle, who hails from Glendive.

Commander Layton also announced that Mace and Lytle were also selected from all applicants across the state as Montana VFW EMT of the Year and State of Montana Law Enforcement Officer of the Year. Certificates for these selections were also presented.

Packets with the personal information and resumes as well as letters of recommendation were submitted in December and the State selections were announced January 2 Commander Layton stated it had been over a decade since Post 4067 had applied for any of the Safety Awards and had been encouraged by the State office to participate. The state selection for the Fireman of the Year was from Missoula.
