The Lady Mavericks picked up a pair of wins last weekend as they downed Brockton 59-15 in Whitewater on Friday, January 19 and Class B’s Glasgow Lady Scotties 45-31 on Friday, January 20.

Bailey Funk, Kia Wasson, and Kaitlyn McColly each had two points, and Sydney Zeller had one point.

The team turned the ball over just nine times against Glasgow, a good number according to Coach Erickson.

“I was happy to see that,” Coach Erickson said. “Anytime you keep t under double-digits in turnovers, that is a good night of taking care of the basketball.”

The team defended well, only allowing 19 points in the first half and 12 in the second half.

“We have been really focusing on the defensive end and making teams really earn points they get against us,” Coach Erickson said. “I thought our defensive effort was really solid, across the board. There was good intensity and good effort from everyone, and I was really happy with that.”

The Lady Mavericks defeated the Brockton Warriors 59-15, led by Johnson, who had 14 points. Wasson had nine points, Sudbrack had eight points, McColly had eight points, Kelsee Cummings had eight points and six rebounds, Boucher had four points. The Lady Mavericks had 20 offensive rebounds, 19 assists and five turnovers.

“I was happy to see that we were going to the glass hard and getting second shot opportunities,” Coach Erickson said. “We only had five turnovers, which is pretty awesome considering that we played twelve people in that game.”

The team jumped ahead 29-0 in the first quarter and only allowed four points in the second half, while piling on 20 more points offensively.

“Everybody got in a lot of playing time,” Coach Erickson said.

The Lady Mavericks scored 10 points in the second half and allowed 11.

The team has one lone senior from Whitewater High School, Jordan Pewitt, who transferred from Dodson High School last season.

“It’s been fun to have Jordan join our program,” Coach Erickson said. “She is a great teammate, who has been happy to join in wherever we have needed her this year.”

The team originally had a game scheduled for Tuesday, January 23, but decided to focus on their varsity practices with the post-season fast approaching.
