One Nation, Under God
Everything from rough road conditions to busted water pipes in the Town of Dodson delayed the 2017 Dodson School Christmas Concert.
Delayed, but not dismayed.
As the students at Dodson spent countless hours preparing for their Christmas concert, it was decided that the show must go on! ...and it did, last Tuesday night in the school gymnasium.
"We are celebrating Christmas a little late so now you can have all the Christmas Spirit without any of the stress," Dodson Kindergarten and Music Teacher Ms. Kayla Messerly said.
Students from all grades of Dodson performed on Tuesday night and the show was worth the wait. The opening act was a handful of junior high and high school students doing a Karaoke version of Vanilla Ice's Ice, Ice Baby (timely as the weather outside dipped down to around negative 20.)
The high school music class followed the 80's tribute with a rendition of Amazing Grace on flutes.
The elementary and junior high students then performed five songs as part of the play Rainbow Christmas including Black and White (the backdrop for the play was a black and white forest designed and painted by Colleen Haney's high school art class) and the song Christmas is a Rainbow. Each of the students wore a costume of one animal or another - a panda, penguins, zebras, cows, skunks, doves and the like - and the show's message was that the world is multi-colored, and people should be tolerant and accepting and should share their world with others whose colors are different than theirs.
The final skit of the night was The Evolution of Dance, as performed by several high school students, each wearing an assortment of glow sticks while they danced their way through a brief history of Hip Hop Dances (the younger students in the audience found this routine very enjoyable as they hooted and hollered.)
The night was concluded with refreshments and conversation.
