A chinook caused considerable trouble at the Dodson dam and fears were expressed for the safety of the structure. The Milk River was running bank full.

Glenn Liskum, the iceman, was just about the unhappiest man in Malta. Upon the completion of a new $600 addition to his ice house, the river flooded and there was no ice to put in the new building.

Clerk of Court Porter has issued a marriage license to Martin Wolfe and Martha Pataska.

Rancher breaks leg in fall from horse
W. A. Brown, south Malta farmer, was brought to the Survant Hospital this week suffering from a badly broken leg received when his saddlehorse fell on him then dragged him for a short distance he was able to pull his foot from the stirrup and to improvise a splint from his rifle. He remounted his horse and rode five miles to the Henry Ulrich farm. Examination revealed his leg was broken in several places.
Catholic youths have good time at party
The card party given by the Catholic Youth Society for young people of the community last week was well attended with 16 tables of cards in play until 11:30 p.m.
Mrs. James Todd, Mrs. P. J. Minehan, and Mrs. Harry Henderson sponsored the party for young the people and served the lunch.

Fire damages home of Chanlunds on Northside
The Wilbur Chanlund home, north of the highway bridge, was damaged to the extent of about $250 when cleaning fluid being used in the kitchen exploded.
Housewives must go back to cutting their bread
Montana housewives had better brush up on their bread knife technique because the days of sliced bread - until the war is over - are numbered.
The Retail Bakers Association of Montana announced the old-fashioned bread knife, will again become a household necessity next Jan. 15. That is the date the association has declared as the last day of sliced bread as the abolition of bakery slicing will reduce labor costs of a loaf of bread in addition to saving steel.

Julie Nesbit now on state speaking tour
Julie Nesbit left Tuesday on a tour of Montana to tell of her experiences as an IFYE student in Ecuador. She returned from Ecuador on Dec. 10 after spending six months there and has been visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Nesbit, in Regina since then.
Man injured by dynamite
Leonard Seaford of Landusky and his cousin, Howard Seaford, from Montgomery Creek, Calif., suffered burns as a result of a dynamite explosion on the Seaford Ranch.
The men were blasting a small ditch to lay underground light wires in a new pig barn when the mishap occurred. They had just laid three sticks of dynamite and had lit the first stick and were trying to light a second when the first went off. The fuses were too short.
Howard was knocked to the ground and Leonard, although his nose was bleeding badly, reached the house and called Jerry Kolczak, a neighbor, for help. Kolczak took the men to the Fort Belknap hospital.
45th wedding anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. August Boos celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary at an open house held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Dwayne Raymond on Sunday, Dec. 31. The open house was hosted by their daughters, Mrs. Raymond and Mrs. John Starkey.
Augustin A. Boos and Anna L. Young were married on Dec. 27, 1922, at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Young, Sr.

Cindi's off to compete in Young Woman of Year
Malta High School senior Cindi Weiderrick will compete in Montana's Young Woman of the Year finals on Saturday, January 9 in Kalispell.
Miss Wiederrick earned the honor by being named Phillips County Young Woman of the year at a local pageant.
A helping haircut
Darla Webb, Sue Kaluza, Ava Ginter and Karen Hould of Sue's Stylette in Malta plan to donate a day's worth of haircut proceeds to the Malta High School Band to help them on their way to a music educators' convention in Portland, Ore.
Kaasa and Abrahamson retire from Road Crew
Longtime Road Crew employees Carl Kaasa and Willard Abrahamson were honored at a retirement party last Monday. Kaasa began working for the county in 1954 and has put in 38 years on the crew and Abrahamson has worked on the road crew for 14 years, since 1978.

Selma Miller: My health has improved a lot.
