John Survant was elected supervisor of the crusade to increase livestock in Montana from Phillips, Valley and Sheridan Counties.

This is taken from the San Antonio, Fort Omaha, Omaha, Neb., newspaper:

"Carl Southwick, Co. A 4th Ballon Squad, challenged Frank Hines, champion wrestler, and threw him in 22 minutes.

The Super Bowl, the new candy store on Fifth Avenue, will open its doors to the public Saturday morning. Mr. Aikins will have a complete line and everything will be made in Malta. The Sugar Bowl will also serve lunches, coffee, and cocoa.

Mr. and Mrs. Glover Wait of Zortman have been spending several days in Malta attending to business and visiting friends.

November 19, 1942

Eastern Star will honor Past Patrons and Matrons tonight

The Order of the Eastern Star will have a special program at their annual meeting tonight honoring Past Matrons and Past Patrons. The committee in charge of potluck lunch to be served during the evening will be Mrs. J. Harrison, Mrs. A.C. Snyder, and Mrs. A. Hanscom.

Wounded in Solomon Islands fighting

Mr. and Mrs. Carl Veseth received word this week that their nephew, Joe Richardson, had been severely wounded in action while fighting with the United State Marines in the Solomon group.

In a letter to his relatives, the youth disclosed the fact that while his outfit was storming Tulagi, sometime last month his shin bone was shattered by a bullet, presumably fired by a Japanese sniper. He was taken to a field hospital in the Solomon group, from which place he was evacuated to the U.S. Naval Hospital in Oakland, Calif. Joe, a private first class in the famous Leathernecks, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert F. Richardson, former Malta residents.

Malta team wins district championship

With a score of 33 to 0, the Malta Mustangs and Coach Lesselyong ended their season on the local field last Friday evening against the Browning Indians and became the Northern Montana Class B champions for the third consecutive year.

During the season the Mustangs were only scored against in the Havre and Glasgow games and defeated only by Havre. In comparison with other teams they played the Mustangs' average score per game was 30 with 2 for their opponents, with a record-breaking score of 89-0 against the Chinook team.

Francis Judge was the high point man for the season with 42 points. Bill Bell was next with 38 points and Rex Kaufman tallied 33 points for the team.

Highway Patrol will enforce 35-mile limit law

Montana Highway patrolmen will enforce both the 35-mile per hour statewide speed limit and the same limit imposed by federal authorities, and will, at the request of the office of price administration, have authority to revoke gas ration books.

Coffee rationing to affect café next two months

Restaurants, hotels, hospitals and similar institutions will get as much coffee during the first two months of rationing as they got in September and October.

Three local men enlist in Navy at Glasgow

Harvey Bruckner, Seth Paul, and Dennis Ohs made applications for enlistment into the U.S. Navy at the recruiting substation at Glasgow this week.

General Malta High School enrollments and graduation information

1919: Grades 7-12: 127 students

1920: Old high school built.

1927: Grades 7-12: 195 students.

1967: Grades 7-12: 452 students. Since 1920, four classrooms have been built - Ag., Home Ec., Science and Typing-bookkeeping rooms. All of the English (18 different classes, average load 25 students), history (15 sections) mathematics (15 sections), junior high science (six sections) woodshop, library, homerooms, plus other subjects are in this old building.

Malta woman celebrates her 90th year

Nettie Harwood celebrated her 90th birthday with a party held at St. Mary's Episcopal Church Guild Hall hosted by her daughter, Marj Sundseth and her granddaughter, Cindy Iverson of Billings. Assisted by St. Mary's Episcopal Guild.

Nettie has been a Malta resident since 1941. She and her husband, Ray, ran the Fifth Avenue Hotel for 11 years. Nettie also worked at the Gamble's Store in Malta for 17 years, until her retirement. She has continued to make her home in Malta.

Airman Roberts has White House Assignment

Joshua Roberts, Senior Airman with the U.S. Air Force, is on special assignment at the White House in Washington, D.C.

Airman Roberts is a bomb squad technician with his teammate, works with the Secret Service to keep the White House safe.

One of Robert's first assignments was to ensure the safety of the small church in D.C. where the president and his wife regularly worship.

Another assignment was at Arlington National Cemetery, in preparation for a visit from the new prime minister of Japan.
