Charles (Chuck) Butler McAdams

Charles (Chuck) Butler McAdams, 85, of Billings, Mont., passed away on Tuesday, October 31, 2017, at his home with some family and his wife, Alice, by his side. Chuck had been terminally ill with esophagus cancer and his wishes were to remain at home until he left this earth.

He was born on December 19, 1931, to Charles Sirvanos McAdams and Eva Rokona Brokaw McAdams in Livingston, Mont.

While growing up in the Livingston area, Chuck loved to spend his days fishing on the Yellowstone River. Chuck told stories about his school days. He didn't necessarily love his classes but he did get an "A" in music class. He said that his music teacher told him that she would give him that "A" if he didn't sing. He graduated from Livingston High School in 1949. Chuck was in the National Guard when he was 16 years old from 1948-1950. In August of 1954, he enlisted in the US Army 82nd Airborne as a paratrooper. He was discharged from the US Army in August of 1957.

On January 7, 1958, he married Evelyn Marie Brown in Sandpoint, Idaho. They had two children together, a daughter, Maureen and a son, Kelly, along with two step-daughters Sharon Biesen and Laurel Koch.

In 1960, Chuck worked for a meat packing house: United Dress Meats in Spokane, Wash. In 1970, Chuck moved his wife and two children to East Helena to manage a meat packing plant for three years. Once the plant closed he went on to work at the smelter in East Helena for a year before he moved his wife and family to Whitewater, Mont., in 1973. He worked as janitor and school bus driver at the Whitewater Public Schools for six years. On April 21, 1976, his wife Evelyn passed away due to medical issues.

On April 15, 1978, Chuck married Alice DeMontigny. His wife, Alice, was the cook at the Whitewater School. In the summer of 1979, Chuck began a position as the Cenex Co-op Manager in Whitewater, Mont., and remained working there until he retired. Chuck and Alice moved to Billings in 1993 to enjoy their retirement years. They spent a few winters visiting "down south" as they would say, and enjoyed the company of family and friends that would come to visit them when they were home in Billings, Mont.

Chuck enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, antique shopping, playing cribbage and spending time with his wife Alice. Another one of his favorite pastimes was watching his Green Bay Packers and the Dodgers play. He would do his own commentating and was an arm chair referee. Up until his last hours Chuck was watching and listening to his sports shows. He also loved to talk about politics and his opinion was very well noted...you wouldn't win an argument with him because he was always right! Chuck would help anyone who was in need. He had a contagious smile and his laughter was always heard above the crowd. He enjoyed telling stories and jokes. He will be greatly missed by so many people whose lives he touched.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Harley, Earl and Jack and sister, Elsie.

He is survived by his beloved wife Alice McAdams; his children, Maureen (Mike) Guerechit, of Great Falls, Mont., and Kelly (Georgia) McAdams of Gardiner, Mont .; step-children, Janet (Darryl) Carlier, of Medicine Hat, Alberta, Shirley Bakken, of Bow Island, Alberta, Rena (Bob) Math, of Whitewater, Mont., Danette (Alan) Love, of Malta, Mont., Sharon (Roger) Biesen, of Spokane, Wash., and Laurel (Bob) Koch, of Washugol, Wash .; as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

There will be no services at this time but a celebration of life for Chuck will be held at a later date. Chuck's wishes were to be cremated and his ashes taken to his family plot in Big Timber, Mont.
