One Nation, Under God
Fall and the onslaught of snow and soon Christmas brings out a new kind of spirit for many of us.
There will be much planning for holiday festivities and family gatherings.
But unfortunately for some those gathering can also be a reminder of a loss of a precious angel who left the circle much too early.
Pearls for Precious Angels is a new and touching fundraiser that would like to raise enough money to supply both Glasgow and Havre Hospitals with a Cuddle Cot.
A Cuddle Cot is a cooling system that preserves stillborn babies (and older children) while their parents grieve.
The giving spirit has already started by Jill Hould with another charity ‘Held Your Whole Life’ which has donated the Moses Basket that attaches to the cooling system.
The cots will be ordered by Susan ‘Peanut’ Green who is an owner of the Mint Bar in Malta.
The cots were first sold in the United Kingdom and started to be available in the United States and Canada in 2014. The cost for a cot is just under $3000 and 100% of the proceeds after expenses will go toward purchasing two.
When asked ‘how did the idea come about?’ Green said, “There’s been enough of our friends who have experienced loss and we’re always doing fund raisers. It’s a perfect month to do it because October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss month.”
The event will be held at the Mint Bar on Saturday, October 21 starting at 7:00 p.m. with hors d’oeuvres and then the pearls.
“It’s going to be $30 for a set. Basically you get the oyster with a pendant. Once you get your pearl out you can either do a necklace or a bracelet”, explained Green.
There will be a surprise as to what kind of pearl one will get once they crack open their oyster. The pearls can come in different colors.
“It’s a hard thing and it happens all the time and for some people it’s such a touchy (subject). People don’t want to talk about it or it’s too many bad memories. I think that’s (a chance to say goodbye) part of the healing after something like that happens,” expressed Green.
“I’ve had friends who lost a baby and said if they could’ve just had a little more time. Because the funeral home is not always a fun place to go. And that’s the only time you get with them. It’s not like an adult where you’ve had years,” Green shared.
They are all angels and they were all precious.
To contact Green phone the Mint Bar 654-1621 or 654-4051 if you have any questions or are not able to attend and wish to make a donation.
