One Nation, Under God
The overall winner of the high school girl's 5k (3.1 miles) race on a very warm Friday afternoon at Airport Golf Course east of Wolf Point was L'Tia Lawrence of Harlem who ran the course with a time of 19:42. The second place runner was Sierra Summers of Frazer who ran in with a time of 22:11. Third place honors went to Andrea Hale of Poplar who ran in with a time of 22:21.
The Malta Mette team was the only team to field a full team for scoring and had a total of 70 points. Among the teams that participated were Harlem, Frazer, Poplar, Brockton, Wolf Point, Culbertson, Dodson, Circle, Richey/Lambert, Fairview, Plentywood, Malta, Trenton and Williston Trinity Christian School of North Dakota.
Despite the overly warm temperatures and smoky conditions, the Mette's placed well as a team and individually. Coach Handley and I were pleased with the outcome, focusing more on their place than their time. They have been running in packs and pushing each other in practices, and the results of this race showed their work. This past week was especially hard with the unseasonably warm temperatures. The Mette's are looking forward to a little cooler weather this next week when they host the Malta Athletic Club Invitational Cross Country Meet at the Marian Hills Golf Course on Saturday, September 9th.
The Malta Mette's placed as follows:
