Doris N. "Dolly" Starkey

Doris N. "Dolly" Starkey of Pullman passed away Saturday, August 19, 2017, at Bishop Place Assisted Living with her family at her side. She was 91.

Dolly was born December 16, 1925, in Cat Creek, Montana to Charles K. and Thelma M. (Dobson) Duncan. She grew up and went to school in Malta, Mont., graduating there. After graduation, she moved to California for a short time but returned to Malta to help with her brother who was ill at the time. She worked for the phone company there and married Orvil "Ole" Starkey on June 15, 1947, after he returned from the service. They made their home in Malta, Saco and Wolf Point, Mont., before moving to Glasgow, Mont., where Ole went to work for the Great Northern Railroad.

Dolly was a Bridge Master and enjoyed teaching the game of bridge in Arizona. Later in life she and Ole were able to take several cruises as she led the games aboard the ship. She was also an ardent Denver Broncos fan and realized a dream when she was able to attend a Broncos game with all of her grandsons and several great-grandsons. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She loved her job as the secretary for Irle Elementary School in Glasgow and later worked for the Federal Credit Union in Glasgow. After Ole retired the couple enjoyed spending winters in Arizona and summers in the Flathead Lake area of Montana. Dolly and Ole enjoyed traveling, especially to visit their children and grandchildren. Later, when traveling back and forth between Arizona and Montana became too much for them, they moved to Canon City, Colo., where they lived for eight years. After Ole passed away in 2012, Dolly moved to Colorado Springs until 2015 when she moved to Pullman, Wash., to be near her daughter and her family. She continued to play bridge at Bishop Place where she met many wonderful friends and caregivers. One special friend was John Hawbaker of Pullman who shared her enjoyment of bridge and who was always concerned about her well-being.

Surviving are her son, Ken of Colorado Springs, Colo., and her daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Monte Walker of Moscow, Idaho. She also leaves 10 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren along with brothers, Verne (Donna) Duncan of Milwaukie, Ore., and Wayne (Connie) Duncan of McMinnville, Ore.

In addition to her husband of 65 years, Ole, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Arnet Duncan.
