A committee of Malta businessmen has secured plenty of funds this week to give the soldier boys a rousing send-off. They entertain in Malta presumably on the 5th of Sept. It is the intention of those in charge to make the day a memorable one for all concerned and from the way everyone is taking a hold, it should be a great day.

The business formally conducted by F. L. Partridge under the name of "Variety Store" will reopen about Sept. 1 in the east room of the new building being completed for business by Edwards & McLellan, on Front Street, under the management of Miss Winifred Partridge. She will carry a complete line of art, including crochet and embroidery threads, stamped goods, toys, music, and novelties. A rest room is being arranged in connection with the store where the ladies may make their headquarters and not feel they are imposing on anyone.

A case of mistaken identity caused no end of excitement Saturday evening when a couple of young men from the south county filled to overflowing with Malta booze tied into one of the local businessmen, who they mistook for another party. They had about all they could handle as it was and next time they will be more careful as to who they take on.

Large crowd attends County Fair

The 27th annual county fair is over. The dust has again settled over the fairgrounds for another year. Many youngsters have taken home happy memories of thrilling rides on the midway, of the pounds of popcorn, hot dogs and pop consumed, and plaster of Paris prizes won on the games of chance. The older folks report a pleasant time spent visiting with neighbors, comparing crop notes, looking at county displays, watching the grandstand performances and an occasional ride on the midway.

According to fair officials, over 5,000 visitors entered the fairgrounds during the two days of the fair. Many of them came from far ends of the county and adjoining counties.

The Dodson High School band in colorful blue and gold uniforms presented a varied musical program at both the afternoon and evening shows. They were directed by Charles Swatek.
