One Nation, Under God

Whitewater News for August 16, 2017

8-9. Sympathy to the drivers on the torn-up Malta streets.

The lady from the Glendive’s Council on Aging was at the Senior Dinner in Whitewater last Wednesday.

Sally Austin had three guests, two were Buffingtons (her relatives, one was a doctor from Great Falls.)

Leona S. and I went to Sleeping Buffalo last Wednesday. I sat in a hot pool and visited with Gale, Challis and Jan and John Roberts. John said something funny! Nice time.

North 40 Café was closed August 1 and August 6, for repairs and remodeling.

Whitewater currently has lots of remodeling on houses and buildings going on.

“Ike Hellie’s” house and the “Jean Murdock's” house are both being redone.

On Sunday, Sally Austin, Linda Berg and I went Fort Peck Theatre. The play was Million Dollar Quartet and it was awesome! The music was fantastic, especially the piano player! Before the concert, we went on a tour of the Fort Peck Dam and spillway. It is incredible that the dam was “manmade!” My uncles, Ted Austin and Gus Guslander, helped build the dam! Was it about 1930?

Whitewater is quiet. Some have already gone to the Phillips County Fair to take their animals or whatever. Somer Green is taking a lamb! Grandma Jeanie is taking chickens ducks and geese. What fun. She has a “menagerie,” pickup load.

I hope to see you all at the fair. I will report more next week. Drive carefully.

8-16. Happy Birthday to Mitchell Moore, my son, and all August birthdays.

Congratulations to Whitewater’s own Jeremiah (LaBrie-Hoffman) on winning at the State Swim Meet.

Michelle Austin and four children from Denver, Colo., visited family here. They went to the Phillips County Fair and on Sunday, they went to the Fort Peck Theatre to see Grease. They left Tuesday.

Most of Whitewater went to the Phillips County Fair (I went all four days.) I went to the concert and it was awesome. Although I am not a rodeo fan, I attended some of it and enjoyed the horse races; especially the Indian Relay Horses.

The food — especially the hamburgers — at the 4-H stand and Boy Scout’s booth were delicious!

Congratulations to Somer Green on winning on her sheep; the Hellie boys in winning for their sheep and also to B. Simonson on his cow. Also, congratulations to Jeanie Green for winning awards; also Margie Olson and George Soennichsen for winning vegetables awards and all who participated and sent entries (I won $6 prizes.)

Special congratulations to our Sue Olson on her work managing the fair! It was fun at the fair! Joyce (Austin) Donaven attended the fair and gave me rides to and from Whitewater.

The Hutterites from Loring, from the East Colony, and from Harlem Colonies, attended the fair. I met and visited with a nice lady from the Harlem Colony.

Well, summer is almost gone; enjoy the warm weather.

Helen A.
