The extended intense heat and the need for rain seem to be utmost on everyone's mind lately. Rain showers forecast for a couple nights ago did not happen as everyone hoped. Possible rain showers are cast for tonight again. It has stayed in the 90's in the afternoons all week — today my thermometer read 100.2 at three o'clock.
Francine KillEagle and family have moved into their home on the west side of Dodson and the old Nelson trailer is gone! Now the outside work can begin and the yard cleared up again to look as nice as it did before.
Barb Tremblay and Dora Henry picked chokecherries and raspberries this week as well as produce from their gardens. It is so good to have the fresh produce. Teri Cole's garden is doing well too, even potatoes, she reported.
Polly Solberg, Teri Cole and Macy and Dora Henry were among those taking animals to the Vet Clinic at the agency on Monday. Caleb Best was also there with his little dog. There was a very large number of dogs and quite a few cats being taken care of.
The fairgrounds are beginning to see quite a bit of activity as some fair stuff is coming in and people are bringing in their trailers to live in during the fair. It will be a busy place this week as the fair starts on Thursday and runs thru Sunday. The horse and fat beef projects don't seem to be as active as they were for quite a few years but I was told there are quite a few swine this year. It is the 102nd year of our continuously running fair.
The Whapatu Center is still closed after six weeks for updating and repairs. The girls are having a needed rest.
Birthday greetings are sent to all having a birthday this week. Especially Bea Cole, Molly Minugh and Corky LaBrie.
People who brag about their ancestors are like carrots — the best part of them are underground.
