Memorial held at Marian Hills Golf Course last weekend
The first Houlie Memorial Golf Tournament hosted 17 four person teams, making the event the largest event hosted at Marian Hills Golf Course in 2017.
The event was held to honor Donnie Hould, who passed away in December of 2015.
"It has been going better than we ever dreamed it would be," said Kay Hould, the widow of Donnie Hould. "Eleven years ago when we had the golf tournament for Donnie's seventy-fifth birthday party, we had 72 golfers and today we have 68."
The event was won by the team comprised of Tony Kindle, Roger Amundson, Kori Kindle and Cory Shelhamer. Second place went to Gordon Webb, Kate Webb, Jim Webb and Babes Bishop. Third place went to Ron Scott, Jack Lind, Alan Wasson and Gary Howell.
The winner of the Planter/Birdhouse "Home Tweet Home" with plant, crafted by Don Hould and Charlie Moore, was won by son Pat Hould of Dubai, UAE.
Mike Rappold, a former Malta residence brought his team from Havre and they had good things to say about the day and the course.
"So far it has been good. I like it," Shane Rice said early in the event. "The grass is awesome. The course looks great. It has been great but it's been my horrible swings that set off the day."
Rappold was the only team member that knew Houlie personally.
"I used to play golf with him every Thursday, so I have plenty of different stories that I could tell you about him," Rappold said. "I miss Donnie. Donnie was a lot of fun. He was always energetic and fun and the life of the party."
Kay mentioned that many that came were friends and family to Donnie.
"Everyone is here for different reasons," Hould said. "They are family, they are friends and it is wonderful. They have come from as far as Dubai for this tournament. My cousin and his wife came from Arizona. We are having a wonderful gathering."
