One Nation, Under God
So I finally mustered the courage to watch a remake of my first favorite television show and as embarrassing as it is to write, I liked it.
I was about five years old when the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers first came on Saturday, August 28, 1993. That day is also my father’s birthday.
I was hooked from the first episode and rarely missed an airing of it until eventually I outgrew it and they changed the show up a couple of times.
As a young kid playing with my brothers and other kids we would always pretend to be Power Rangers.
I had to check an old episode for old times’ sake last year and I quickly saw how cheesy the show was and how bad the acting truly was.
So when they announced that a new movie was coming out I was reluctant at first but something inside of me was wanting to see if they could modernize it and make it cool again.
So I went down to Central Video and rented it not knowing what my wife would think of the Power Rangers, having not seen anything related to the show in her past.
I think it is safe to say that we both liked it. Yes there was a bit of cheesiness in the film but it was well executed and kept both of us intrigued and we are waiting for the sequel.
We didn’t let PJ see the film because honestly, I believe it would’ve given him nightmares.
But I am interested to see one day if he remembers what his first favorite show was. His first favorite show was Curious George when he was two. His choices have changed since then. He loved Paw Patrol but his new favorite thing is Transformers: Rescue Bots.
Every so often I have been buying him Rescue Bot toys. After collecting a few of these toys, he often asks about the Bots that he doesn’t have in his collection. I guess he understands the concept of team which is something I learned when watching the Bulls of the 90’s as well as the Power Rangers.
