One Nation, Under God
The month of June is zipping by! The first week of summer has been a bit cool and windy. Still no rain, which we desperately need! The ditches are being swathed and baled as is the other hay.
The Loring picnic fundraiser was a great success! I didn't realize how many little kiddos were around here until they all got together on the playground, I'd say about 20 under seven! The adults had a Norweigan horseshoe tournament with about ten teams. A special treat for me was seeing Ruth and John Flansaas out from Malta! They have been long time supporters of the Loring community! Also Alice from France is visiting Pete and Carol Lumsden for a few days!
What a beautiful Sunday it has been! It looks like everyone who could went to the lake today to boat and play!
I got a note from Bette Dyrdahl who had read in the Phillips County News that Fran and I had been looking for Loraine. She said there was never a town at Loraine, just a store and post office. She did share a bit about the post masters and some early recollections of her childhood near that site. She also said how she should have asked her mother more about that stuff but never did. We can all take heed from those words...if your mom is still around, ask her everything you can think of and write it down!
I love it when someone actually says something about this column. I wonder sometimes if anyone reads it because I rattle on so much! Congratulations to the Phillips County News staff on their recent awards for different articles and photos over the last year!
It sounds like summer basketball season is in full swing! I suppose that the summer games will be coming up in Billings soon! Good luck to all the athletes! Also to the cowboys and cowgirls who are competing in the summer rodeos, barrel competitions and team roping!
Everyone have a safe Fourth of July and remember to count your lucky stars that we are the country we are...the USA!
