One Nation, Under God
The Memorial Day Parade in Malta is Monday, May 29, Memorial Day and will start at 1 p.m. with a law enforcement escort.
Parade organizers ask that people participating in the parade line up behind Veterans Memorial Park prior to the procession. From there, Charlie Stevens will tell people where to go for line placement. He will have a bright green vest on. The parade route has not been set yet due to the water line project.
“We are hoping to go to Hi-Line Retirement Center as in previous years,” said Malta VFW Auxiliary’s Carolyn Schmoeckel. “We are hoping for many floats. Prizes will be awarded to the top three and the Malta Chamber of Commerce will provide judges. We are asking the businesses to decorate store fronts in red, white and blue decor.”
Immediately following the parade, the memorial ceremony will commence at Veteran’s Memorial Park. The American Legion and VFW will host the program.
At the conclusion of the program, all will be invited to the BBQ at the VFW Club. Veterans will be admitted free while others will be asked to pay $2 at the door. Sign up for door prizes will be at the door also.
The menu consists of hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, baked beans, and cake. The cake is provided by the First State Bank. Sue Hungerford is the baker. Guests do not have to bring any food items. Dale Bruckner will sing the National Anthem at the BBQ.
Honored guests are the veterans and Mae Walsh, Gold Star Mother. Prior to the food being served, Schmoeckel and Jay Southwick will present the MIA/POW ceremony and all will be asked to recite the Pledge of Allegiance. A 50/50 drawing will also be had
