Phillips County Sheriff's Report for May 10, 2017

April 22, 2017

9:31 a.m. Deputy reported a disabled vehicle on Hwy 191 south of Malta, partially in the lane of traffic; Deputy stayed and blocked traffic until a local tire company responded to the location per registered owner’s request; vehicle later towed to town by a local towing company.

1:46 p.m. Female requested assistance with a vehicle for a family traveling to Roundup from the train; Malta Transit bus was not answering their phone; information passed onto Transit Bus employee and family taken care of.

2:52 p.m. Lake Wind Advisory in effect from 6am to 6pm Sunday.

5:41 p.m. Female reported water bubbling up between 6th and 7th on Central Ave; information passed onto City employee.

7:18 p.m. Male reported damage to a window on a building in Malta; Deputy responded to the call; case file started.

8:03 p.m. Female reported a situation that just occurred at a local business involving a juvenile; Deputy responded to the call; case file started.

8:45 p.m. Female filed a verbal second-hand report of a vehicle with one bright headlight and one dim parking light, northbound on Hwy 191 south of Malta; Deputy responded to the call; vehicle not located.

9:44 p.m. 911 received reporting a “man down” in the Sleeping Buffalo area; Deputies and local EMT Crew responded to the call; male later reported to have left with a female; local ambulance canceled; Deputies located the male at a cabin and he was okay.

April 23, 2017

3:07 a.m. Lake Wind Advisory remains in effect until 6pm tonight.

2:40 p.m. Lake Wind Advisory now in effect until 10pm tonight.

2:58 p.m. Female requested assistance at a local residence for a possible situation; Undersheriff responded to the call; situation taken care of without further incident.

3:14 p.m. Female reported a stolen house key from her residence; Undersheriff handled the call.

3:42 p.m. Undersheriff released one adult male, Troy Salveson, on time served.

4:34 p.m. Female reported a male lying in the ditch west of Malta on Hwy 2; Undersheriff responded to the call; male found to be okay, just resting from walking.

6:17 p.m. Female reported a male lying in the ditch west of Malta on Hwy 2; Undersheriff responded to the call; male was okay, just trying to get to Dallas TX.

6:57 p.m. Female reported a square bale on Hwy 191 south of Malta; local rancher contacted and removed the bale.

7:06 p.m. Male reported a temporary water pipe spraying water in a residential area; information passed onto City employee.

7:33 p.m. Male reported damage to a Hwy sign due to the bale falling off; information passed onto MT Dept of Transportation employee.

8:39 p.m. Male reported three suspicious people near the Underpass; Deputy responded to the call; individuals were very uncooperative with law enforcement; individuals advised to stay in Trafton Park for the night and move on the next day.

Several calls received reporting a male lying in the ditch along Hwy 2, west of Malta; callers advised male had been checked out and was okay.

9:48 p.m. Lake Wind Advisory is canceled.

10:14 p.m. Female reported a male sitting on the side of Hwy 2, west of Malta; caller advised male had been checked out and was okay.

April 24, 2017

7:40 a.m. 911 received reporting a male alongside of Hwy 2, east of Dodson; male was acting very strange; Undersheriff responded to the call; male not located.

8:40 a.m. City employee reported a disabled vehicle on Short Oil Road; vehicle was partially in the driving lane; Undersheriff responded to the call; vehicle later removed by a tire company.

10:08 a.m. Female requested extra patrol around her residence; information passed onto Deputies.

10:10 a.m. Male reported a hitchhiker “sleeping” on the side of Hwy 2, east of the Overpass; information passed onto Undersheriff.

12:01 p.m. Male posted bond for Thalia Medina on Blaine Co SO charges; information passed onto Blaine Co SO.

1:41 p.m. 911 received reporting a male hitchhiker in the ditch, just out of Dodson; caller thought he was dead and then he moved; caller advised has been checked out and is okay.

2:31 p.m. Male filed a verbal complaint regarding neighbor’s dogs barking for 3 days; information passed onto ACO.

3:07 p.m. PC Hospital requested an ambulance for a flight crew pick up from the airport, transport to the hospital and back to the airport with their patient; local EMT Crew handled the call.

3:59 p.m. Local Fire Dept reported to the track to water it down.

4:02 p.m. Female reported a Publisher’s Clearing House scam.

We have been receiving calls and individuals have been coming in to report telephone calls with people asking for personal information, bank account information and needing to send money to relatives.

Calls have been received from:

• Federal Student Loan company

• Publisher’s Clearing House

• the IRS

• People claiming to be calling for a Magistrate or a Grand Jury regarding a Federal Criminal Offense

• Loan Company

• Life Alert

• People requesting a money order number so they can give you vehicles that they claim you have won

• Calling from a Montana business, such as a florist shop from another town

• Federal Warrant

• Storage Pods, asking to verify your name

• Calling about a Caribbean cruise

These phone calls are scams, if it seems suspicious DO NOT GIVE any information to the caller. Ask for a call back phone number and call them back to see if it is who they are claiming to be.

The IRS and the Federal Justice System do not contact people via telephone.

Always remember the key things regarding scams:

1. If you didn't enter, you didn't win

2. If you have to pay to receive your prize, you didn’t win.

3. If you have a lawsuit or other legal issues pending you will get notification via certified mail or served to you by an official, whether it is a law enforcement officer or a civil process server

5:26 p.m. Female reported a male alongside of Hwy 2, in Dodson; caller advised male had been checked out and was okay.

8:29 p.m. Deputy reported a possibly abandoned vehicle near a business’ lot; owner located and advised to move the vehicle.

April 25, 2017

10:25 p.m. Male reported someone on his empty lot and wanted him removed; Undersheriff responded to the call; vendor located and left the location without further incident.

1:22 p.m. Ft Belknap LE reported an erratic driver complaint they received; vehicles traveling on Hwy 2, eastbound, and were going in excess of 100mph; Undersheriff responded to the call; vehicles located and were going the speed limit.

1:49 p.m. MHP Dispatch received an erratic vehicle complaint; vehicle was on Hwy 2, eastbound in Blaine Co; information passed onto Undersheriff; vehicle not located in Phillips Co.

2:00 p.m. 911 received reporting a possible break-in to a Saco residence; Undersheriff responded to the call; case file started.

8:13 p.m. Female requested law enforcement assistance with a possible theft situation; theft may have occurred in Harlem; caller advised they needed to call Blaine Co SO.

9:44 p.m. Male requested a Deputy at his residence; Deputy handled the call.

April 26, 2017

8:48 a.m. Female reported a scam involving Dish Network.

8:24 p.m. Ft Belknap LE advised PCSO of a male that was dropped off at the reservation call; no further information available about the male.

9:18 p.m. Female reported a hitchhiker west of Dodson; information passed onto Deputies.

April 27, 2017

6:33 a.m. Male reported a hitchhiking male on Hwy 2, “wandering in and out of traffic”, east of Malta; caller was concerned male might get hit by a vehicle; Deputy responded to the call; male located and advised to stay on the side of the Hwy.

9:57 a.m. Female reported a bumper pull trailer causing a traffic hazard on a residential intersection; Deputy responded to the call; trailer not located in the reported area.

10:49 a.m. Local business requested assistance with camera footage regarding a transient; Deputy responded to the call; transient located and advised she cannot stay the night at that location.

11:04 a.m. Deputy performed a motorist assist with a vehicle alongside of Hwy 2, east of Malta.

12:12 p.m. Male requested law enforcement assistance with a possible situation involving juveniles and drugs; Deputy handled the call.

3:42 p.m. 911 received reporting a possibly abandoned vehicle on Route 66; caller didn’t see anyone around and the vehicle was more on the Hwy than off; information passed onto local MHP Trooper and trainee; vehicle later located and tagged to be towed.

5:37 p.m. Male reported “huge clumps of dirt” on Hwy 191, just out of Malta; information passed onto MT Dept of Transportation employee.

5:50 p.m. 911 received reporting a female in a vehicle and caller believed she might be trying to take the vehicle; Deputy responded to the call; female did not take the vehicle and male left on his own accord.

8:41 p.m. Male reported a vehicle/deer accident south of Malta; Deputy responded to the call; white form issued.

10:04 p.m. PC Hospital requested an ambulance for a flight crew pick up from the airport, transport to the hospital and back to the airport with their patient; local EMT Crew handled the call.

April 28, 2017

8:44 a.m. Alarm Central reported a fire alarm sounding at a local business; all found to be okay, just a fire drill.

2:51 p.m. Female reported a Publisher’s Clearing House phone scam.

7:23 p.m. Deputy incarcerated one adult male, Troy Salveson, into PCSO Jail to serve time on sentencing.

9:05 p.m. Female reported water blowing out of a fire hydrant near 6th Ave/7th St East; information passed onto City employee; hydrants in that area were supposed to be blowing to relieve the pressure.
