The Saco teams had a few placers at the Malta Athletic Club Track Invitational on Tuesday, April 25.
The Panthers were led by Freshman Ty Murphy who took second in pole vault after clearing 10-6. He also cleared 5-2 in high jump. Murphy posted a time of 1:06.40 in the 400.
Chris DePuydt took fourth in the 200 with a time of 25.90, a season best.
"It's been a decent meet so far," DePuydt said during the meet.
DePuydt placed seventh in long jump after clearing 16-3 ½. He posted a time of 59.61 in the 400 and a length of 32-0 ½ in the triple jump.
"I've only done triple jump two meets this year but I've been getting more speed in my jump and getting more length on my second step. My coach always says that my second step is really short."
Dustin Ostrom posted a new personal best of 15-7 in long jump. Ostrom also posted a time of 13.03 in the 100 and 27.67 in the 200.
The Lady Panthers were led by Bailey Funk who took second in long jump with a leap of 14-8 ¼, a season best. Funk also took third in pole vault after clearing 8-0. Funk also took fifth in the 100 with a time of 14.74 and fifth in the triple jump with a length of 30-8.
Sydney Zeller took fifth place in high jump after clearing 4-8. Zeller also took sixth place in the 400 with a time of 1:13.11. She also took ninth in the long jump posting a leap of 13-5 1/2.
Challise Young posted a new personal best of 62-5 ½ in discus.
"I think it was just in the form," she said noting that she uses a standing throw. "I just got down lower. You gotta have strong legs and get your hip around."
Young posted a throw of 22-6 ¼ in shot put. She also posted a throw of 45-9 in javelin. Young has set a goal to reach 85-0 in discus and 30-0 in shot put.
"I think I need to get in the weight room and start lifting more," Young said noting that she had taken a week off of track. "I think it gave me more energy but it really relaxed my muscles, so that's why I need to get back in the weight room."
