Municipal Election Update

The following is an update of the filing of candidates for the November Municipal Elections in Phillips County.

Malta

Current Malta Mayor Shyla Jones has stated that she will not run for reelection. Currently, John Demarais is the only candidate to file for this position. The mayor’s position is a 4-year term.

In Malta’s Ward I, incumbent councilman David Rummel has filed for reelection and Tim Hasler has also filed to run for this position on the Malta City Council.

In Malta’s Ward II, incumbent councilwoman Bonnie Wiederrick has filed for reelection.

Both council positions are 4-year terms.

Dodson

Current Dodson Mayor Terri Cole has filed for reelection. The mayor’s term is 4-years.

There are two, 4-year terms open on the Dodson Town Council as Caleb Best and Jessica Fetter’s terms are both expiring. No one, as of Friday, April 26, has filed for these spots.

Saco

The Town of Saco has three, 4-year terms expiring which are Mayor Clint Simpson’s and council members Gayle Hammond and Craig Robinson. No one, as of Friday, April 26, has filed for these spots.

Those seeking to file

The last day for candidates to file for city and town office is Tuesday, June 19, 2017, at 5 p.m. Any person wishing to file for office who is a registered voter within the city limits of Malta, Dodson or Saco, may obtain the required forms and fee information from the Election Office located in the Phillips County Courthouse at 314 S. 2nd Ave. W. or by calling 406-654-2423.
