One Nation, Under God

Malta native pens Montana Memoir

On November 30, 2016 the Phillips County News ran a photo identification request of the third man on the right of the now cover on Montana Memoir the book by authors William L. McGee and Sandra V. McGee.

I won’t ruin the mystery as many of you interested in Phillips County and Montana history may want to read the book and the solution yourself.

Author Bill McGee revisits his life growing up in the small cattle town of Malta and Montana during the Hardscrabble Years of 1925-1942.

He relays his family genealogy from Europe to eventually where his father, Harry McGee, met his mother, Vivian Lyon, on her brother’s cattle ranch in Park County, Montana, in 1919.

The U.S. Border Patrol was established in 1924 and in 1926 Harry McGee would be employed at Loring, Mont.

The McGee family moved to Malta by automobile which took three days from Wilsall, Mont.

Not long after, Vivian McGee was a single mother with four children to raise and that’s when the young Bill McGee life story really began.

From a ranch hand in the Bennett Lake area, to riding the rails and horseback riding with General George S. Patton it is a story of wanderlust that all can enjoy.

William L. McGee’s writing career has spanned six decades. He has written 22 books (nine of them with his co-author/wife Sandra V. McGee) including four World War II military histories and eight memoirs.

The authors’ website is WilliamMcGeeBooks.com.

The Montana Memoir book was released in December 2016 in a paperback edition, and a Kindle edition available on Amazon.

Signed copies of Montana Memoir will be available at the Phillips County Museum.

The copy given to the Phillips County News for the book review has been donated to the Phillips County Library in Malta for all to enjoy.
