Three MMS grapplers place in Lewistown

The Malta Middle School Wrestlers took sixteenth place as a team at the 2017 Montana Middle School Championship in Lewistown last Saturday. Thirty five teams were present.

Cordell Salsbery scored a team high 20 points for Malta, while placing second individually in the MMSC 90 class. Salsbery competed in the championship but lost the match to Elijah Davis of Great Falls East by pin fall at 2:35.

Rex Williamson took fifth in the MMSC 150 by defeating teammate Cash Salsbery by 2-0 decision. Ca. Salsbery took sixth.

"In our second week of action, our guys wrestled really well,” Malta Head Coach Nick Oxarart said. “We were able to place three wrestlers in the top 6. Oren Mackey and Camryn Mears wrestled really well and both were only one match away from placing. There were teams from all across the state competing in this tournament.”

Malta also had several wrestlers in the JV class.

Wyatt Judd took second place in the JV 73-78 class. Judd won his final match over Draven Stein of Great Falls East by pin fall at :26.

Shane Soul took second in the JV 101-105 class. Soul pinned Choteau’s Gus Lee in his final match at :29.

Ben Anderson took third place in the JV 85-87 class. Anderson lost his last match to Fort Benton’s Levi Giles by pin fall at :18.

David Pitman took third place in the JV 150-159 class. Pitman lost his final match to Glasgow’s Kohl Kittleson by pin fall at 1:56.

Oren Mackey went 3-2 in the MMSC 140 class. Camryn Mears went 2-2 in the MMSC 110 class. Tye Jones went 1-2 in the MMSC 110 class. Colt French went 1-1 in the MMSC 125 Class. RC Skiff went 1-2 in the MMSC 125. Blake Watts went 1-2 in the MMSC 130 class. Spencer Gibbs went 1-2 in the MMSC 115.

Malta’s next wrestling action will be at the Chinook mixer Thursday, March 16 at 4:30 pm.
