PC Library releases book list for Classic Challenge

If you already know; that 42 is the answer to Life, the Universe and Everything; who holds the ring that Bilbo Baggins seeks and how Buck fairs as a sled dog in the Yukon territory, then you have most likely read three of the books on this year’s Phillips County Library’s Classic Book Challenge.

If you can’t make heads or tails of the above sentence, fret not, there is plenty of time to read a classic and make sense of it all.

The Phillips County Library has released the 2017 Classic Book Challenge List and Hitchhiker’s Guide To the Galaxy (42), The Hobbit (Frodo) and Call of the Wild (Buck) are three of the 20 books (see each of the titles below.) The challenge is open to junior high and high school students, as well as adults, and is a contest with the ultimate goal of broadening people’s reading tastes. There are three tiers people can choose to participate in — Snack level will read four off the list, the Entrée level reads five and the Feast level will read six books off the list — and next January, one lucky entrant will have their name drawn for a prize of $100 Dino Dollars when the contest concludes on December, 11, 2017. It will never be too late to start the contest — which officially began on February 1 — and even if you have already read book on the Challenge List, you can read them again and they will still count toward your total.

People interested in joining the challenge need to register at the Phillips County Library prior to beginning, audio books also count in the contest and if you have any more questions you are encouraged to call the library at 654-2407.
