Women of ELCA have quilts blessed before donation

The Malta Lutheran Church Women of ELCA began Quilting January 18 through March 22, 2016.

Quilters met in the church basement on Monday afternoons and Tuesdays 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Our women completed 27 polyester quilts. On November 6th, 34 quilts were placed on the pews and were blessed by Pastor Bob Nagy.

In June, two quilts were given to a family who lost their house to a fire in Zortman.

In November, 21 quilts were given to Lutheran World Relief. They are sent all over the World to help people in natural disaster areas.

In December, eight quilts were given to our residents at the Hi-Line Retirement Center.

We keep a few quilts on hand for emergency events for our surrounding communities.

Our quilting women are:

Frances Slade, Ruth Flansaas, Dagmar Farstad, Shirley Tribby, Linda Soiseth, Marlene Holman, Rosemary Veseth, Norma Kelly, Jeanne Engebretson, Sharon Kindle, Carolyn Carver and coordinator Jan Kirkwood.

From the world map poster at MLC a year of kits with Lutheran World Relief commemorates the 500th anniversary of Reformation by making LWR kits of care.

In 2016 there was $13.3 million dollars worth sent to 534, 144 beneficiaries in 16 countries from two shipping warehouses in Minneapolis, Minn. and Baltimore, Md.

This total included: 346,170 Quilts; 12,180 Blankets; 191,720 School kits; 144,970 Personal care kits; 17,138 Fabric kits; 48,900 Baby care; and 46,247 pounds of soap.
