Lady Mavs, Lady Coyotes clash in Whitewater

The Lady Mavericks and Lady Coyotes squared off in Whitewater last Saturday evening for the second time this season.

North Country’s defense would show up in the second quarter, holding Dodson to one point as they defeated the Lady Coyotes 50-30.

North Country was led by Mickayla Johnson who had 14 points. Jada Sudbrack added ten points to the total. Casity Boucher scored eight points.

Christina Jaynes and Melony Fetter both scored 10 points apiece for the Lady Coyotes. Donna Dale had nine points and Mikaeya RunsAbove scored one point.

North Country outscored Dodson 11-10 in the first quarter. The team started to pull away in the second quarter with a 12-1 run, but continued their run into the third quarter as they outscored Dodson 13-8 in the third and 14-11 in the fourth quarter.

North Country had lost to the Scobey Lady Spartans 36-19 on Friday night in Scobey.

Johnson led the Lady Mavs with six points. Boucher had five points. Sudbrack scored four points, Kayleigh Cummings had three points and Kaitlyn McColly scored one point.

The Dodson Lady Coyotes lost 58-25 to the Roy-Winifred Outlaws last Thursday in Dodson.

The team was led by Melony Fetter who scored 14 points. Donna Dale scored six points, Jaynes scored three points and Shania Kill Eagle scored two points.

“The first time we played them we got down by forty points,” Assistant coach Kill Eagle said. “This is a state team. They are ranked in the state and I think our team did outstanding. Especially the first quarter, we had them so frustrated and I think it surprised our girls.”

The coaches praised Dale, who had the tall task of trying to slow down the Outlaws in the paint.

“I was in tears after the game because Donna Dale worked her butt off,” Coach Kill Eagle said. “Anything we ask her to do, she will do and she will do it the best she can, 100 percent the whole game.”

Though the team lost, the coaches were impressed with the efforts of Dale, who helped frustrate their opponent.

“She held those post players (in check),” Coach Kill Eagle said.
