One Nation, Under God
Welp, for the first half of the Super Bowl, I was correct.
Last week I had predicted an Atlanta Falcons Super Bowl win. At halftime, the Falcons were up 21-3 and Tom Brady hate memes were running rampant on Facebook.
Then Lady Gaga sang. I have to admit that I didn’t want to see the halftime show until some people claimed that she was going to make a political statement.
I was gearing up for the next thing President Trump was about to say on his Twitter account in retaliation to the halftime show, but after watching it, I was surprised nothing controversial happened.
Baseball fans might remember when Ozzie Guillen was the manager for the White Sox. To me, it didn’t matter if the Sox won or lost, it was all about the crazy post-game rants. I wasn’t sure what was going to come out of Guillen’s mouth but you better believe I lined up to see what he had to say.
That’s how I feel about our President. You never know what is going to come out of his mouth but he is an open book. Though I can’t say that’s awesome for our country, I am entertained.
After halftime, the Pats gave up a touchdown and fell behind 28-3, but if you have been watching NFL games for the past 15 years, you would see that you can never count Coach Belichick and Brady out of a game.
The Patriots broke hearts as they scored 31 unanswered points and eventually won the game, giving Brady and Belichick their record fifth championship, Brady a record fourth Super Bowl MVP trophy and merit to what Dean Yeadon said to me last Friday, “I’m not worried about it.”
I told Yeadon to never underestimate his opponent. But he was right. New England pulled it off.
PJ had fun watching the Super Bowl. He would mimic whatever was going on the screen, though I don’t think he was into the Halftime show. By the time that happened, he was on his mama’s phone playing a race car game made for two-year-olds.
I don’t know if PJ was more intrigued by the football game or The Amazing Spiderman 2, which we had watched hours earlier. It’s amazing how even at the age he is that he likes football and superhero movies like his daddy.
Truth be told, that Spiderman movie messed me up, if you have seen the ending, you would know why. It could also be the fact that Hanz Zimmer composed the soundtrack. From the Lion King to the Pirates of the Caribbean, to the Dark Knight series, Zimmer takes you on an emotional rollercoaster.
