One Nation, Under God
Each year, over 3,500 high school students from across the country participate in the VFW Auxiliary’s Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest and the Malta VFW Auxiliary is hoping Phillips County high school students will join in.
Any students in grades 9 through 12 who are 18 or under, U.S. citizen or U.S. National can enter the contest and first place winners from each state will compete for national scholarship awards totaling $21,000 and the local winner will a receive of prize of $25 in Dino Dollars. The contest is open to boys and girls and any patriotic theme is acceptable. All entries will be on display at the VFW Club except for the winning entry which will be sent to the national contest for consideration. Some entries will also be featured in an edition of the Phillips County News.
The first place art will be featured on the cover of VFW Auxiliary Magazine and on the VFW Auxiliary national website. Second and third place artwork will be featured in VFW Auxiliary Magazine and on the VFW Auxiliary nation-al website. Winning entries will be held and displayed at the VFW Auxiliary National Convention.
Artwork must be on paper or canvas and in the mediums of water color, pencil, pastel, charcoal, tempera, crayon, acrylic, pen-and-ink or oil. Digital art and photography will not be accepted. Submit canvas entries on stretcher frames or canvas board; other entries must be matted on white. Art should be no smaller than 8” x 10” but no larger than 18” x 24,” not including the mat.
The deadline for the local contest is Wednesday, March 15 and students may mail their entries to Malta VFW Auxiliary, PO Box 957, Malta, MT 59538 or dropped off at the VFW Club in Malta.
