The Malta-Whitewater Wrestlers took third at the Choteau Classic on Saturday, January 14 behind junior Trey Simanton and sophomore Kolter Schipman who took first and second respectively in their weight classes.
Simanton is (25-2) picked up five wins last Saturday, including his championship win in the 138 pound class over Fairfield's Cole Giles (3-1) by 6-4 decision. Simanton defeated Shelby's Brodey White (28-7) by pin fall at 1:54 in the semifinals.
Schipman (18-5) lost the 120 pound class championship match to Daniel Uli (25-0) of Plains-Hot Springs by 13-1 major decision. Schipman made it to the championship by defeating Darwyn Johnson of Fairfield-Simms by pin fall at 2:13.
Kaden Moore (18-7) took third place in the 132 pound class by pinning Broadwater's Kameron Rauser (25-5) at 2:50. Moore lost the 132 semifinals to Poplar's Hunter Reum (19-7) by a 4-2 decision.
Andres Lopez (12-8) placed sixth place in the 182 class by defeating Shepherd's Trent Saunders (7-12) by pin fall at the 1:31 mark.
Callan Mears (15-7), a 126 pounder, picked up a win over Ethan Mishler (3-3) of Fairfield-Simms by pin fall at 1:05 but did not place.
Ceaton Mears (21-10), a 145 pounder, picked up a win against Cascade's Kyle Evans (11-16) by pin fall at 1:01 before losing in the quarterfinals to Plains-Hot Springs' Luke Lile (19-3) by 10-6 decision. Mears would go on to defeat Belt's Nolan Myrstol by 14-5 major decision but lost out later in consolation matches.
Travis Epperson (16-10), a 170 pounder, defeated Poplar's Michael LovesHim (4-9) by pin fall in 29 seconds. He would lose to Shepherd's Sonny Cochran in the quarterfinals by pin fall at the 5:19 mark. Epperson would pick up a win in the consolation round, defeating Tyler Stevens of Great Falls Central by 16-0 technical fall. He then lost to Gustavo Wenz (4-2) of Shepherd by a 13-8 decision.
Miles Bunk (4-16), a 205 pounder, had a win in the consolation round against Deer Lodge's Kaydon Eierdam by pin fall in 30 seconds.
Heavweight Frankie Werk (6-13) picked up a win in his first match of the day by pinning Chinook's Reubin Swenson at the 1:13 mark.
Marcus Woods (1-14) wrestled in the 138 pound class.
