One Nation, Under God

Whitewater News for January 18, 2017

Sympathy to the family of Morris Mavencamp.

Sympathy to victims of floods down south and other places.

Happy birthday to Patty Young and Howard Berg and all January birthdays and in memory of Mom (Martha) and Dad (Harry Austin) and Gus (uncle.) We always had a party in January for them.

Basketball season is in full swing all over Phillips County. The sports reporters can handle that.

There was a “quilting party” at the North 40 recently. My mom and other ladies quilted years ago.

There was a white limousine (car) at the North 40. Rumor is the Limo belongs to Stoughie's in Hinsdale. It was leased by a person from Loring as a birthday surprise to bring guests to Patty Young’s birthday party at the North 40! How nice.

We have lots of snow. Plows have been out, including locals; Ike Hellie and the Hellie Boys plowing.

Triangle Telephone Co.’s “upgraded Mobile phones” are in Whitewater. Things change; In the 40’s and early 50’s there was only one phone in town at Brand’s Store! (Does anyone remember that?) There were no individual phones in houses, just the town phone in the store! Maybe we were better off?

Note of the week:

Be careful that you don’t win your personal battle, but lose the whole war!

Helen Austin.
