Lady Coyotes pick up win before break

The Dodson Lady Coyotes split their final weekend of 2016, by picking up their first win of the season over Nashua on Tuesday, December 20. The score was 34-20. The win came after they lost 62-26 to the Scobey Lady Spartans.

In their win over Nashua, eighth grader Melony Fetter had a game leading 21 points, eight of which came in the third quarter.

Freshman Christina Jaynes had seven points in the win. Mikaeya RunsAbove, Donna Dale and Raven Jackson each scored two points a piece.

Dodson came out pretty slow offensively in the first half, but only gave up 16 points. The halftime score was 16-12 in favor of the Porcupines.

Dodson would then display a lockdown defense that would only allow two points for the third quarter and another two points for the fourth quarter.

While the defense stiffened the offense ran like a well oiled machine scoring 12 points in the third quarter and then 10 in the fourth. The team was also 8-or-16 from the charity stripe.

In the team’s loss to Scobey, Fetter again led the Lady Coyotes in scoring with 15 points and two treys.

Jaynes added five points. Dale had four points and RunsAbove had two points.

The team will have their first game of 2017 on Thursday, January 5 at Roy-Winifred. They will then travel to Grass Range on Friday, January 6. They will end their two day road trip with a home game against North Country on Saturday, January 7.
