The Malta Mustangs won decisively against the Wolf Point Wolves in Wolf Point after posting a 75-36 victory last Wednesday, December 21. The win came after the Mustangs dropped a close 59-56 game to the Havre Blue Ponies. The team had a break over Christmas and as the break continues the team will host a few practices until they are scheduled to see their first game of 2017 against the Rocky Boy Northern Stars on Friday, January 6. They will then return home for their second home game against the Roundup Panthers on Saturday, January 7.
In the team's win over Wolf Point, the team was led by Taylor Matthews, who scored a game-high 19 points. Nate Costin scored 17 points. Ostin Welch had 15 and Konner Kuehn had 10 points.
Malta led in scoring in each of the first three quarters, the totals for each quarter being 28-16, 23-3 and 20-8. Wolf Point outscored Malta 9-4 in the fourth.
In their loss to Havre, Costin led all scorers with 21 points. Welch had 18 points, and three treys. Matthews had 14 points.
Malta fell behind early, giving up 19 points in the first quarter, while only posting only eight points. The teams were identical in the second scoring 15 points each in the second quarter, bringing the half time score to 34-23. Malta outscored Havre 13-12 in the third and then 19-12 in the fourth but it was too late for Malta.
