Grapplers place in Glasgow

The Malta-Whitewater Wrestling Team have been off to a strong start in their 2016-17 campaign and that continued last Saturday as the team was able to take fifth place at the 21st Annual Scottie Invitational in Glasgow with a total of 85 points.

Dawson County won the event with 138.5 points. Glasgow took second with 109. Shepherd was third with 102 and Sidney took fourth with 94.

Malta was led by Trey Simanton (11-1) who took first place in the 138 pound class by pinning Fairfield’s Cole Giles (3-1) at 4:26.

Sophomore Kolter Schipman (7-2) took second place in the 126 class after being pinned by Glasgow’s Matt Reyling (3-0) at the 3:01 mark in the championship round.

Junior Ceaton Mears (7-7) took third place in the 145 class after defeating Colton Hillyard (4-2) of Fairfield/Simms by an 11-2 Major Decision.

Freshman Callan Mears (8-4) took fourth place in the 120 class after losing the third place match to Choteau’s Pete Henderson (8-3).

The Mustangs are set to wrestle at the Shepherd Mixer on Friday. They will then travel to Worden for the Huntley Project Duals.
