One Nation, Under God

Saving vs. Selling Souls

It is a little over a month since the 2016 Election and it seems as though big surprise… Liberals and Conservatives are still arguing. Big surprise, right?

I don’t know what it is about the human psyche that makes people think that they are better than the other. Whether race, neighborhood, religion, career, social status, political belief or whatever, people tend to think that they are not only better than the other but also have to voice their opinion saying so.

What gives one the entitlement to say “stupid liberals,” or “stupid millennial,” or call anyone out of his or her name?

Don’t get me wrong, my views are probably more conservative than you think, but I draw the line when conservative thinking looks down on the common man.

I don’t care what political, racial or religious affiliation you have, you are just as human as the next person.

A few days before the election, I saw something that disturbed me. It was a pastor friend of mine, who felt the need to call all Democratic voters idiots and freeloaders. Though I have never voted for a Democratic President, I knew this was wrong.

I have a lot of family and friends that are Democrats, that have never used food stamps, gotten free cell phones or lived in a section eight house. Yet, here was a pastor of a church speaking down on people, in generalized hate-speech.

So I messaged him, calling him out and even used scripture to do so. He wasn’t ready for what I had to say, so he unfriended me.

My issue is not that he unfriended me. My issue is that men and women who should be representing the love of Christ are being more caught up in politics and dividing the nation through political rhetoric. In other words, this person felt it was more important to broadcast to his followers and Church members that liberals were idiots than to show the love the Bible clearly teaches.

Dear Democrat or Republican, if you want to continue to spew your hate for someone who opposes you on the internet, go for it. But it makes you look weak, lost, close-minded and like a fool to others that live in a different point of view.
