Students honor Vets with Christmas Cards

For the fourth year straight, The Malta American Legion has asked schools in Malta for their help in their Christmas Cards for Veterans and those students have responded in spectacular fashion.

"Just like other years, we have a tough time judging them again this year," Auxiliary President Krista Fahlgren said. "Now the winners get treats at Dairy Queen."

"Two Chocolate milk shakes, please," Blake Tharp, five, play-ordered at Malta Head Start on Friday afternoon. Tharp was one of 22 students from Head Start and Malta Elementary School to be selected for this year's contest in which three students from each grade where selected first through third place (with an honorable mention thrown in to fifth grade.) The winners were awarded $10, $5 and Dilly Bar gift cards for placing.

"Mine has a candle, that was my favorite part," Tharp said. "And I love chocolate."

Natalie Simanton, three, was somewhat shy about being interviewed, but lit up like a Christmas tree when asked what her favorite DQ menu item is.

"Ice cream," she glowed. "Chocolate."

The Malta American Legion Auxiliary will take the cards and send them to Veterans at the VA in Helena.
