The Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has approved investigation activities for the petroleum contamination encountered along South 1st Street West, Malta. The clean-up activities are required by DEQ under the authority of 75-5-501 through 75-11-526, Montana Code Annotated (MCA) and Administrative Rules of Montana (ARM) 17.56.606. The DEQ Petroleum Tank Cleanup Section has issued a task order for the investigation to be performed by Olympus Technical Services, Inc. Copies of the Task Order are available upon request by contacting the Petroleum Tank Cleanup Section at the DEQ Remediation Division’s main phone line (406) 444-6444. The City of Malta is requesting that all recreational vehicles be removed from city streets and alleys. Ordinance #422 defines recreational vehicles as motor homes, campers, boat trailers, utility trailers and others. Vehicles are to remain off city streets and alleys for the period of December 1 to March 1 in order for efficient snow removal.

Notice of Intent to Transfer Location of air Quality Permit (Pursuant to Section 75-2-211, MCA, and ARM Title 17, Chapter 8, Subchapter 7, PERMIT, CONSTRUCTION AND OPERATION OF AIR CONTAMINANT SOURCES).
Century Companies, Inc. will file on or about 12/10/16 notification of intent to transfer location of an air quality permit with The Permitting and Compliance Division/Air and Waste Management Bureau of the Montana Department Environmental Quality. Applicant seeks approval of its transfer of location of Portable Crushing Plant Air Quality Permit #3368 to Section 26, T31N, R30E, Phillips County, 4 miles East of Malta on HWY 2, then North
approx. 3.5 miles.
The division must approve or disapprove the permit transfer within 30 days of receipt of a complete notice of intent. Any member of the public with question or who wishes to review a copy of the permit and the division’s analysis of it, or to submit comments on the change of location must contact the division at 1520 East Sixth Ave., P.O. Project Startup announcement: Construction and renovation of Old Highway 2 will commence the week of 11/28/2016. The project limits from old Highway 2 out to the Bowdoin Wildlife Refuge. Project updates will be posted as construction proceeds throughout the winter months and into the summer of 2017.
The Replacement of Dodson Canal Bridge will commence on November 28, 2016 and run through March 1, 2017. This work will require Old Highway 2 to be closed to through traffic during construction.
