One Nation, Under God

Stop the keyboard politics!

I have bitten my tongue on politics this political season mostly because I don’t agree with the major parties running our country. Somewhere between all the posts of the lies and secrets of the Clinton administration and the racism, sexism and lies of the Trump administration, I was able to find an escape though barbeque.

After such a sideshow of an election, I think America needs to chill out and there’s no better way to chill out than a barbeque.

I was able to find solace in a couple of things while people were posting hateful and nasty political rants. The first was prayer. The second was barbeque.

I belong to a group on Facebook that discusses and shares things they’ve made on their Weber Kettle grills.

Many may already know I have picked up a couple of grills this summer. The first Weber I bought was purchased for $15 and the second, a larger Weber for $10.

While people were fighting over whose lives matter more, I was firing up my grill. While people were ripping each other apart because of their political views, I found peace in smoking meat. It’s been a fun and tasty adventure.

The other day I smoked roast beef for the first time and I have to say that I may have found my new favorite thing.

Growing up I had no idea that you could own a meat slicer let alone make your own roast beef for deli style sandwiches. It was a happy mistake. I went to Albertson’s to grab a chuck roast to make pulled beef, there weren’t any available so I settled for a bottom round roast which I had never smoked.

Thanks to Google, I found out that cut of meat makes great sandwich slices, so I tried it.

Pecan was my wood of choice and it turned out to be amazing and at a fraction of the time it would’ve taken me to make pulled beef.

America, life is too short to be fighting each other over politics. Despite my disdain for the majority parties, I do believe that in some ways both parties are trying to do the best for our future; they just have differing point of views. We are all hu man.

Congratulations to newly elected President Trump. I will respect him as I have our current President Obama and former Presidents Bush and Clinton. I was too young to respect Daddy Bush and Reagan. But if I could’ve I would have respected them too!
