The Malta M-ettes volleyball team saw their season come to an end at the Northern B Tournament in Shelby last Friday after they lost their elimination game against the Cut Bank Wolves in four matches. Malta also lost to the Fairfield Eagles in the opening round. Choteau eventually won the Divisional Tournament by defeating Fairfield 3-1. Shelby won their third place match against Glasgow 3-0.
In the team's loss to Fairfield, Malta was led by Ella Schye, who had seven of Malta's 20 kills. Schye also had five of seven aces and all six team blocks. Sam Mitchell had eight of 18 assists and 14 of 56 digs.
The set scores were 25-8, 25-10, 31-33, 25-14.
In their loss to Cut Bank the set scores were 25-20, 25-13, 25-27, 25-21.
Malta was led by Julia Meisdalen who had 10 of Malta's 25 kills. Mitchell had 11 of 23 assists. Kyleigh Schipman had three of 10 aces. Raleigh Hunter had nine of 56 digs. Schye, Meisdalen and Janessa Malmend each had one block.
The M-ettes saw another year of growth for a team that hadn't seen a lot of varsity time before the 2016 season.
The team's season had several highlights that included defeating Glasgow in the second round of the District 2B Tournament in Malta a couple of weeks ago.
The team also had a pair of All-Conference athletes this season, including Schye, who took first team honors and Mitchell who took second team honors for the second consecutive season.
