Malta High School reACT! Crew deems Ribbon Week a success at Malta Public Schools

Malta High School reACT! Crew had a busy line-up of activities this year during Red Ribbon Week, October 24-31st. The Red Ribbon Campaign® was started when drug traffickers in Mexico City murdered DEA agent Kiki Camarena in 1985. This began the continuing tradition of displaying Red Ribbons as a symbol of intolerance towards the use of drugs. The mission of the Red Ribbon Campaign® is to present a unified and visible commitment towards the creation of a DRUG - FREE AMERICA.

On Monday, October 24th, Malta High School reACT! teamed up with the Phillips County Sheriff's Office to hand out Red Ribbon Week gel bands to Malta Elementary Students while sharing a drug free message.

Malta High School reACT! Crew chose "Super Heroes vs. Drugs" as a theme for both the coloring and poster contests held at the Malta Elementary School. Prizes were awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes in each of the grade levels. Study Hall Trivia was played all week at Malta Middle School and Malta High School with can-dy prizes awarded to classes to correctly answered questions.

MHS reACT! also "chalked the walk" on the sidewalks at the high school, sharing tobacco-free messages, like "1600 people die each year in Montana due to tobacco use" along with the free MT Tobacco Quit Line. To finalize the week, reACTors helped out at the Malta Boys & Girls Club carnival by holding a balloon dart booth, "Don't let Big Tobacco Target You!" letting kids know that tobacco companies are targeting them as their next customers.

The next project for Malta High School reACT! will be helping out the Phillips County Coalition for Healthy Choices' annual Turkey Bowling Family Fun Night, this Thursday, November 10th. The potluck dinner starts at 6pm, in the Malta High School Cafeteria, with the Turkey Bowling to follow. Everyone is invited to come out for an evening of fun, food and turkey bowling!
