One Nation, Under God

P.C. Museum news for week of October 12, 2016

It’s catch up time here at the PC Museum. All those piles that accumulated over the summer are growing smaller every week! History and genealogy requests continue to come in. A recent request was for postmarks from old post offices in Phillips County and Montana. Phillips County is rich with towns that are no longer in existence. The museum has a very large map of Montana with old town names in its collection. In addition in our gift shop we have a book that lists town’s no longer in existence across Montana. Do you remember “Freewater”? Freewater was located in Phillips County and had a post office from 1916-1927. The first postmaster was Richard Garland. Do you remember “Tattnal?” It was a Great Northern station on Whitewater Creek. Here is an easier one. Do you remember “Harb?” Harb had a post office from 1915-1919 with John Hunter as the first postmaster. It reopened in 1928 until 1933. These are just a few of the names on the Face of Montana. Stop in and check out our historic books. Also if anyone has a postmark they would like to share please let us know. Doors are open Mon-Sat 10-5.
