One Nation, Under God

Gas and dash

I was almost a fugitive the other day.

I had no idea if it was because I was super tired or if it was because the pump didn’t have a card reader but last Tuesday I put $19.01 worth of unleaded plus in my gas tank and proceeded to drive off from the Sinclair Gas Station in Havre.

I was about 15 miles east of town when it dawned on me that I didn’t pay for my gas. I freaked out a little bit and frantically pulled over thinking, I have to make it back before they call it in and I become another statistic.

I called the store back on the way only to find out the owner couldn’t understand my mishap.

After about three or four minutes of pleading my case I simply said I was on my way back to pay my bill.

It seemed as though the store had no idea.

Luckily for me the owner was kind and understood. I paid my bill and there was no issue.

Now, I can only imagine if that happened almost anywhere else… The local police department probably would’ve been after me in minutes. In Chicagoland it probably would have been a big deal.

Any gas station I have ever been at, the pump won’t turn on unless you pay for your gas first or the credit card reader was activated.

I promise that was the first time that has happened to me but I am safe to say other than wasting a gallon of gas and about 45 minutes of my time there was no incident.

In case you were wondering, I don’t always use unleaded plus in my car… So let’s call it a test. I’m not convinced that it is better for your car, but I feel fancy with a mid octane fuel in my ride.

After my first experience with mid-grade and the rising cost of lunch meat, I think I’ll go back to regular unleaded.

Until someone can prove to me that any other grade of gasoline is better than regular, I am going back to my cheap ways because I am now 0-1 on using a higher grade fuel.
