One Nation, Under God

0-1 fans, carry on

I’ve never understood bandwagon fans. Is the more appropriate title sore loser? Since I started paying attention to pro football as a kid and a Chicagoan, I have been a Bears fan. Growing up a Chicagoan, I was lucky enough to see Michael Jordan and the Bulls dominate the league. I have been a White Sox fan since the early 90’s as well.

I say pick a team and stick with them. That would be too easy.

Instead we live in a society where people just quit. I know in the grand scheme of things it’s only sports but still I believe your loyalty to a team can say a lot about a person.

As I see many of my friends’ switching teams for the third time since I’ve known them, I am staying true to my Chicago sports teams. Yes that even means that I will not be rooting for the Chicago Cubs, who is my cross-town rival.

I am happy that at least one Chicago team is doing well, but if they do make it to the World Series, I will not be flying their flag.

It’s funny that lately I’ve been asked several times by people if I am glad that I don’t live in my old hometown anymore with the violent crimes that have been happening.

Bolingbrook is about 25 miles southwest of Chicago. I miss my hometown. I even miss the city of Chicago. There are certain parts even here in Northeastern Montana that locals don’t consider “safe.” It’s no different than Chicago.

I am saddened by the crime rates in Chicago. I miss my city and I pray that one day people’s eyes will awaken.

There are a few things I miss about Chicagoland, including access to all of my favorite sports teams.

My favorite sports team, the Chicago Bears lost their opening game, however it is early in the season.

I urge NFL viewers that read this to stay loyal to your team. It is not time to abandon ship yet. As a fan of an unproven Bears franchise this century, please keep the faith. If your team loses, mourn respectfully. (I would advise only punching a pillow.) If your team wins, celebrate responsibly. (I would advise a club soda with lime or bucket of chicken… or both.)
