Horses Stolen
A rancher by the name of Crawford living near the Coburn reservoir in the foothills of the Little Rockies reports the theft of a valuable team of horses the first of the week. It is suspected that a fellow, well known in that locality and going by the name of Pete Joscelyn is the guilty party and officers from the sheriff's office are now hot on his trail and indications are that he will be overtaken soon, as he will, no bout, try to dispose of the team in that section.
Great West Film players arrive in City
It was a jovial crowd of 26 Great West Photoplayers that stepped off their private car "Shirvan" of the Oriental Limited, Monday noon and wended their way to the Great Northern Hotel where they are to be headquartered for at least this week.
Malta has been made the central location for many of the scenes of the first Great West feature film, entitled "The Golden Goddess" a story of the northwest adapted from Wallace D. Coburn's poem, "Yellowstone Pete's Only Daughter."
Twenty-four hours after their arrival, Director General Chas. W. Hitchcock had given the order to "shoot" and Malta has been a movie town ever since. With completion of the local setting the company will move to a camp now being fitted up for picture taking at the foot of the Little Rockies.
EDITOR'S NOTE: Golden Goddess would be done filming in November of 1916, but not released to theaters until 1918 under the name The Sunset Princess.

Tip for the highway
Here's a trailer tip from the Montana Highway Patrol: If you pull your trailer with a passenger car, you must obey the basic speed law. Remember, too – it's against the law to impede other traffic by driving too slowly. If cars are stacking up behind you, pull to the side and let them pass.
City affairs studied by Council
According to the City ordinance, watering restrictions will be off Sept. 15 and persons will no longer be required to water on specified days.
A motion was passed to purchase a spare wheel and tire for the new garbage truck. The old matter of parking trucks on the streets was again discussed. Trucks larger than 33 feet are not allowed to be parked on the streets, according to the city ordinance.
The price of a tranquilizer gun to be used on dogs was discussed and the city clerk was asked to obtain further information.

Senior citizens slate open house at their new home
Phillips County senior citizens in the Malta area are enjoying a new home thanks to the generosity of First Security Bank.
The seniors recently made the move from the Moose Lodge which had been their home for probably the last 25 years into the former USDA building located on west Front Street.
The building, vacated when a new USDA center was constructed south of Malta, was purchased by Malta businessman Larry Matthews.
He leased the facility to the senior citizen organization and First Security Bank has donated the first year's lease price.
What does the center mean to senior citizens?
"It means it's a joy to live," quipped senior Clara Veseth.
"It's a joy to be able to come and play cards and visit. It's something to look forward to," added Bertha Cebulski.

PCMS fund-raiser declared a 'great success'
Phillips County Motor Sports fund-raisers were hoping to exceed last year's attendance of 100 guests at this year's fund-raiser and auction – and succeeded beyond their expectations.
More than 100 people attended the dinner while many more showed up for the auction.
The highlight of the evening, the announcement of the winner of the 1980 Buick Riviera, donated by Dallas Auto Sales, came as Dwayne Simanton, Sr., was named the lucky ticket holder.
More than $11,000 was raised with the money projected to build concrete barriers in time for the first race – hopefully early next spring.
