Seventh and eighth grades – Miss Hazel Tormey, teacher, 43.
High School – Miss Helen Cain, Miss Helen Baum and Mr. Elliott, teachers, 41.
The small enrollment in the high school is partially due to the fact that some of the high school pupils are detained on account of the work on the ranches. New pupils are enrolled every day, four having been added on the second day of school.

Football call for “Ex’s” is sounded
Several well-known ex-gridiron stars have felt the cool late summer air whistling around their bulging stomachs and spavined legs with the result that the possibility of a town football team is being talked up in several quarters.
Last year an attempt to form a town team was made but because of a lack of equipment plus a retraction on the part of several former stars of their desire to scrimmage junked the attempt.
Among M.H.S. alumni who have been shown ing enthusiasm about establishing an independent eleve are Earl Garland, Jim and Bob Hotz, George Brandon, Keith Stine, Jack Lang and Paul Kropp.

County in good fiscal shape, mill levy down
An increase in property values is allowing the Phillips County Commissioners to drop the mill levy a little in the upcoming budget.
Originally targeted at 77.52 mills, the final amount is 77.29 mills, which includes a .23 drop in the mill levy voted for the public safety budget sought by the Sheriff’s Department.
In spite of the lowering of the mills, County employees found themselves the recipients of a five-percent across the board raise for all full time employees. The increase will amount to approximately $80,000.
