One Nation, Under God

Phillips County Museum News for August 31, 2016

In two months the 2016 election will be over. Yes, I hear you and agree the negative ads are discouraging. Maybe we should carry on a colonial tradition – on Election Day barrels of liquor were rolled onto courthouse lawns and drinks were offered to woo voters. Would this be a better ploy than the ads?? The PC Museum has a NEW display of “funny” and "serious” political buttons. Also in the display are posters and signs with native names such as Robinson, Campbell, Moore, Whitcomb, and many more. Join the fun and check out our display. Museum hours are Monday-Saturday 10-5.

Other interesting election facts. Did you know that before 1845 states picked their own election day? Congress decided that a uniform day for elections should be set and in 1845 set the second Tuesday in November as the legal date for elections. Which President won 49 states in the 1984 election? If you answered Ronald Reagan you would be correct. And last - has the total number of registered Montana voters tripled or doubled since the 1920 general election? And the correct answer is tripled.
